Andy Heron who has joined Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust as its first Chief Operating Officer, took time out from his first week to introduce himself and speak about his new job.
“I am genuinely delighted to have been appointed – I very much wanted to come and work for Somerset Partnership having known of this Trust for many years, and from my time managing mental health services in neighbouring North Somerset during the 1990s.
The Trust has always enjoyed an excellent reputation as a successful pioneer since it became the country’s first dedicated mental health Trust in the 1990s. It has continued to lead the way as the first Trust to integrate social care and mental health services and, most recently, in the work to integrate community health services. There has clearly been much achieved on integration so far and I am keen to build on this to deliver the benefits of integrated services for staff as well as patients.”
Andy joins the Trust from East London NHS Foundation Trust and has more than 25 years’ experience in mental health services. He first trained as an occupational therapist and also has strong experience in community health services and Learning Disability services. He has also previously worked in local authority services.
“I have received a very warm welcome from staff so far, and have been impressed by their obvious capability and enthusiasm. I am looking forward to getting out and meeting as many staff as possible as I travel around the Trust.”
Andy is married with teenage children and lives in North Somerset.
