Help for parents and carers

This section describes support available to those who care for individuals affected by autism. It describes agency, commercial and third sector provision, and lists generic and autism specific support groups, in different areas of the county.

 

Minehead family carer group

A group run for family carers of adults with a Learning Disability who are in receipt of a service from Somerset County Council. Read more »

This support and social group, based in Minehead, is for people on the Autism/Asperger Spectrum and their carers. Read more »

NAS Mendip and district

Meets on a Monday evening, 7.30pm – 9.30pm, once a term at Critchill School. All are welcome, you don’t need to have a child at Critchill School. Read more »

NAS Somerset Branch

The Somerset branch of the National Autistic Society is free to join and you do not need a formal diagnosis. Read more »

North Somerset Crossroads

North Somerset Crossroads offers advice, information and support to carers and runs support groups at various locations in the region. Read more »

Push For Action

Somerset and Wessex Eating Disorders Association (SWEDA) offers a wide range of services to ‘those affected by eating disorders’ in Somerset and the surrounding counties. Read more »

Somerset Carers Support Service

Carers Support Workers are linked to hospitals and doctor’s surgeries across Somerset. They will give you time to talk about being a carer and work out any additional needs you may have.

The free Help in Crisis service is available to all carers who may need assistance at short notice. It is given by registered care providers and has certain criteria to qualify.
